Academics
Israel College of the Bible offers a special one-year program for international students.
The Year In Israel Program (YIIP) is a unique program that offers a strong exposure to the history, archaeology, geography, language, and culture of the Bible Land. YIIP is a vocational-academic program whose purpose is to offer the opportunity to study in the Land of the Bible and to benefit from this unique setting to learn more about the Bible and the Jewish roots of the New Testament and Christian faith. Bible classes are combined with on site instruction. The exposure to the physical setting opens up the Bible in a new reality and allows the student to understand the Scripture in its cultural and physical setting instead of being limited to modern reality or imagination. ICB offers classes such as Biblical Geography where you travel the land learning about the Bible, Biblical archaeology where classroom instruction is combined with a two-week archaeological dig, the Dead Sea Scrolls and the New Testament that enable students to better understand the world of the New Testament. Background of the Old Testament and Background of the New Testament and Early Christianity focus on the world in which biblical events took place in order to shed light on the ancient cultures and customs that bring the Scripture to life. Additionally courses are taught on Modern Israel and Jewish Christian relations.
The goal of the YIIP is to enable the Word of God to become alive to the student in ways that they can't get at home, as well as to make ambassadors for Israel. YIIP students become involved in local congregations and in the Israeli community. In this way, they learn to love and understand the people and culture and generally go home as God's representatives on behalf of His people. YIIP students intermingle with the Israeli students in every way except for classroom lectures. ICB has student/faculty retreats and celebrations at all the major holidays as well as monthly student/faculty lunches. It is very much a community atmosphere.
